• Resumen

  Entre los indígenas de las Pampas y Araucanía, como en toda sociedad humana, las fiestas -denominadas convites o cahuines- constituían oportunidades de llevar a cabo un abundante y prolongado consumo ritual de comidas y bebidas, constantemente reiteradas a lo largo del año con distintos fines específicos. Este artículo, además de establecer una clasificación de los convites, de los anfitriones e invitados, y de avanzar sobre las características de los insumos y de la mano de obra necesarios para su organización, ofrece una explicación que los vincula con el ejercicio del poder y las alternativas de los procesos políticos que tuvieron lugar en la región, particular pero no exclusivamente durante el siglo XVIII.

• Abstract

  Between the Natives of Pampas and Araucanía, like in all human society, the celebrations -denominated convites or cahuines- constituted opportunities to carry out an abundant one and prolonged ritual consumption of meáis and drinks, constantlv reiterated throughout the year wíth different specific aims. This article, besides to establish a ciassification of convites, the hosts and guests, and to advance on the characteristics of the staples and the necessary manual labor for its organizaron, offers an explanation that ties thetn with the exercise of the power and the alterhatives of the political processes which they took place in the región, individual but not exclusively during century XVIII.
